St. Frances X. Cabrini
John Collier was commissioned to sculpt the patroness of the newly designed St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic Church in El Paso, Texas. Fr. Frank Lopez, Pastor. Mother Frances Cabrini devoted much of her life to helping immigrants. In Collier's depiction she faces south toward Mexico; she offers cups of water to the approaching immigrants. Water spills from the cups into a basin below creating a fountain as part of the sculpture. The inscription on the basin quotes Matthew 25:35 "for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me."
Bronze, eight feet in height above the limestone base.
