John Collier was commissioned by the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts to create an 8' x 10' bas-relief depicting St. Ignatius Loyola writing his spiritual exercises at his cave in Månresa, Spain.  

St. Ignatius composed his exercises with the intention of helping retreat participants discern the will of God in their lives.
